Leader:
The Jazz
State of
Indiana –
Volume I
Based on
Duncan
Schiedt’s
1977 book
The Jazz
State of
Indiana,
this album
documents
the early
beginnings
of jazz by
musicians
from
Indiana.
From King
Oliver’s
Dippermouth
Blues
(1923) and
Wes
Montgomery’s
Naptown
Blues(1950’s)
to Hoagy
Carmichle’s
The
Nearness of
You(1937),
this album
authentically
presents
the work of
those
pioneers in
a uniquely
American
art form -
Jazz. This
compact
disk has 16
different
tracks and
includes a
24 page
booklet
which
presents in
pictures &
text
historical
information
about each
selection.
The Jazz
State of
Indiana –
Volume II
Following
on the
popularity
of
Naptown’s
first
Indiana
Jazz album;
this
second, The
Jazz State
of Indiana-
Volume II
continues
to feature
the works
of early
jazz
musicians
from
Indiana,
but with a
bigger
band. From
J.R.
Robinson’s
Margie
(1921) to
Claude
Thornhill’s
Buster’s
Last Stand
(1921),
this album
recreates
examples of
that
uniquely
American
art form -
Jazz. This
compact
disk has 14
different
tracks and
includes a
22 page
booklet
which
presents in
pictures &
text
historical
information
about each
selection.
When A
Child Is
Born
Like
other art
forms, Jazz
continues
to evolve
with the
times. This
album of
Christmas
Jazz in a
spiritual
mode
captures
some of the
spiritual
directions
Marvin
Chandler
and Jack
Gilfoy have
found
church
audiences
responding
to so
enthusiastically
over the
last few
years.
Perhaps the
mood of the
season and
the
perspective
of world
events
makes this
album an
appropriate
metaphor
for the
changing
American
culture.
